Training Requirements

Environmental breathing equipment is a life support system. As such, it is critical that the user has the following:

1. Understands the operating system

2. Developed the skills to operate the apparatus under extreme conditions

3. Exercised discipline to use the knowledge and skills

ESS has developed a training outline for the TACR that can be conducted over a five-day period for first time users and a two-day period for personnel that have experience using open circuit breathing apparatus.

Service Requirements

The TACR:

Has standard oxygen and air fittings that allow the gas cylinders to be filled without removal from the unit.

  • Uses a pre-pack disposible carbon dioxide absorber (scrubber) that is quality and quantity assured, use dated 5 years, easy to install.
  • The counterlung is a quick-change sleeve bag that can be issued to the individual user or cleaned and maintained on the unit.

    The TACR can be serviced between users in 3 to 5 minutes.

Maintenance Requirements

ESS has developed a periodic maintenance schedule that specifies a monthly systems verification check. This procedure can be conducted in five minutes. An annual gas system cleaning, lubrication and electronics qualification can be conducted in 15 minutes. Test equipment is available to conduct, per-use, verification tests as desired.
